Responsibility for the Land, Our Community, and Israel:
An AI-Enhanced Jewish Learning Experience

Grade Level: 5-6

Format: Digital/Hybrid

*Accessible on any device or can be used

without student devices

Time: 45-60 minutes

ShalomLearning’s Tu BiShvat AI Learning Experience is an AI-enhanced Jewish learning lesson for grades 5–6 that brings the value of Responsibility/Achrayut (אַחֲרָיוּת) to life through an engaging, real-world dilemma connected to Israel and environmental stewardship. Using Brisk Teaching, students read a short prereading on Achrayut, stewardship as a mitzvah, and bal tashchit (avoiding waste), then step into the role of an “Israel Land Council” responding to a water-shortage scenario. As they debate and revise their thinking, students practice evidence-based reasoning, wrestle with tradeoffs, and consider how responsibility extends from the individual to the community and the broader world.

What makes this experience especially powerful is the AI-guided structure: every student has a responsive “debate partner,” which increases participation (not just the loudest voices), prompts deeper thinking through targeted follow-up questions, and supports revision and reflection in real time. Teachers can quickly see student progress and understanding, and the lesson remains accessible across settings, whether students are on individual devices, sharing in pairs, or participating in a teacher-led, projected format. The experience concludes with an exit ticket and a measurable action pledge, helping students move from values language to values in action.
